Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is a legal process through which individuals or businesses who are unable to repay their debts can seek relief from some or all of their financial obligations. It allows debtors to eliminate or restructure their debts under the protection of the bankruptcy court. The process typically involves the assessment of the debtor’s assets and liabilities, as well as the formulation of a repayment plan, if applicable. There are various types of bankruptcy filings, commonly referred to by their chapter in the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, such as Chapter 7 for liquidation and Chapter 11 for reorganization. Bankruptcy can provide a fresh start for the debtor but may also have significant long-term effects on their credit and financial standing.
